Reduce your speed Accelerate and decelerate slowly
When making a turn gradually turn the steering wheel and feather the brakes lightly before the curve. As you turn, coast through it with your foot off the brake and gas. When you have your foot on the brake, the wheels discontinue turning and that’s when the car can lose control
If you happen to skid, remain calm. Take your foot off the brake and/or gas pedal and turn the car in the same direction that the car is skidding into
Keep a distance of at least four seconds between you and the car in front of you. Adding a few extra seconds in distance will not make your drive much longer but it will increase the time you have to react if you hit a patch of ice
